MI ARTESANO - SOCIAL ENTERPRISE
Mi Artesano started as a way to display San Jacinto municipality handicrafts to the world.
The origin of these bags is San Jacinto, Bolivar, a small municipality located 81 km south of Cartagena, Colombia. This municipality is famous for their artisans who have worked for generations in their art, the elderly passing their knowledge and techniques to their relatives.
However, San Jacinto has a dark history: this municipality was affected and damaged by armed conflict almost two decades ago. During this time, there was a lot of pain and death; most of them were forced to escape to big cities to seek a better life for their families.
Nowadays, San Jacinto is living in peace and learning how to rise again, but the wounds remain. There are not enough jobs available in the region and the government help isnβt enough to help San Jacinto. Artisans are still trying to figure out how to improve their lives while sharing their art and tradition with the world, but they struggle to do so.
What if I tell you there is a way to help these artisans to have a better life from your home? The idea of Mi Artesano aroused as a way to aid the artisans of this village to share their craft while creating sustainable jobs, which is why each product you buy helps directly San Jacinto’s artisans. This online social enterprise e-commerce sells woven crafts with international shipping, allowing anyone in the world that desires to cooperate with this cause and promote the craft of San Jacinto to do so.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Our greatest satisfaction is to see how we’re helping a community to believe in hope again after a conflict that wounded them for more than a decade.
